How to Measure Your Stick
Getting the right stick length starts with an accurate measurement. Here's how we do it.
The Method
- Stand the stick up against a wall, with the blade on the floor.
- Lay the shaft back against the wall so it sits flush and vertical -no leaning or angling.
- Measure straight up from the floor to the top of the shaft (the butt end).
- Record that number - that's your stick length.
Why We Measure This Way
Measuring floor-to-top with the shaft flat against the wall gives a consistent, repeatable number that isn't affected by blade curve or lie, which can throw off measurements if you measure along the stick itself. It's the same reference point every time, whether you're comparing sticks from different brands or checking sizing against your own height.
A Few Tips
- Use a hard, flat wall and floor. Carpet or uneven flooring can skew results by half an inch or more.
- If you're unsure whether to size up or down, it's usually better to go slightly longer for shooting power and reach, or slightly shorter for puck handling and quickness - but starting from an accurate measurement is what makes that choice meaningful.
